Favorite Travel Blogs & Bloggers From 2011
It’s hard to believe how many blogs we read on a daily basis and how many bloggers we have gotten to know over the last 15 months. It’s like online dating, but with friendships. Or as we like to call it… online friending.
Travel blogs have also become our number one source for pre-trip information and travel inspiration.
Since top travel blog lists are relative to the person writing them, we have decided to call this list ‘Our Favorite Travel Blogs and Bloggers From 2011’.
We apologize in advance if we missed a few of you! It’s tough keeping track of all of our favorites.
Technosyncratic
We have gotten to know Christy and Kali online over the last year and we can safely say that we would be instant friends in the “real” world. Their travel blog is always entertaining, full of humor and features amazing photography.
One of the things we love about Andi, besides the fact that she is a Chinese Medicine Doctor, is her lust for life. Her blog inspires us to not only travel, but to remember to be thankful for each and every day that we are on this earth.
Y Travel Blog is written by Caz and Craig, who have been living and traveling around the world since 1997. If you are looking for insider travel tips, interesting stories, and the inspiration to go travel, then make sure to check out their blog.
Beers and Beans
Beth is a professional photographer and Randy is a professional journalist. This dynamic duo has been traveling all over Europe, sharing breathtaking photography and entertaining stories. We can’t wait to see where their travels take them in 2012.
Michael is one the funniest travel bloggers on the net. His ‘Lucky 13 Interview’ series proves that he likes to set his content apart from other travel bloggers. We are happy he has invited us to be his next victim.
Travel for Love
Laura and Roberto are an American and Brazilian (respectively) couple currently living on separate continents while navigating the US immigration process. We are really excited that they have officially planned their wedding for March of 2012 and they no longer have to travel in order to see each other. Now they are able to travel WITH each other!
Jeannie is one of the nicest travel bloggers around. Did we mention that she also has mad writing skills? She is a mid-lifer who was stuck in an unsatisfying desk job and courting a growing resentment towards the North American lifestyle. After swearing to change her life on a file folder, she sold all her earthly possessions and set off to travel in June 2010.
At the age of 29, Stephanie decided to take a sabbatical to travel solo through Central and South America and hasn’t looked back since. We have enjoyed reading her stories of life as an expat in Buenos Aires and look forward to her adventures in the rest of South America.
Travelated consists of Alex, Emily and Rease. These three writers share hilarious tales of travel from around the world as well as tips on how to travel on a budget. We know 2012 is going to be an amazing year for them.
Cathy grew up with a love for travel and by the time she was about 10, she had a travel guide collection of brochures and glossy booklets covering destinations around the world. In 2011, it seemed like Cathy and her husband were in a different European city every weekend. That’s saying a lot considering they live in California!
Anthony and Elise are two Australians traveling the world and spreading love and positivity. They love to learn about the world, how others live their lives, find people and places different from their own, enjoy these experiences, then take it all and live the most positive life they can.
Cameron and Nicole Wears are a married couple from Vancouver, Canada. These two Canucks recently returned to Canada after an around the world trip. These days they are happy with having a home base and taking various trips throughout the year. Their newest adventure includes an adorable baby boy!
Jason and Aracely completed their first long-term trip together as a couple in 2010. After experiencing nirvana while traveling through most of Central and South America, they have now turned their attention to making their long-term dreams come true. They make pretty awesome videos too!
Kent and Caanan aim to live a “no vacation required” life, where every day is awesome and something to look forward to. For now, they enjoy working virtually so that they can travel deliriously and live deliberately all the time. They are big advocates for giving back to those less fortunate and we love them for it!
Almost Fearless
Christine’s extremely well-written blog is one of the most popular travel blogs out there. She and her husband, Drew, now travel the world with their almost 2 year old son. We are looking forward to their finished documentary film about people who work online and travel around the world.
Dave and Deb started blogging long before most of us. It’s no surprise that their site has become one of the most visited travel blogs. This adventure couple is a great source of inspiration for travel, photography and living life to the fullest.
Jaime decided to breakaway from everything to backpack the world. His blog is entertaining, funny and helpful. We love his monthly budget posts since we really have no idea how to budget while traveling. It gives us hope that we can learn how to do this on the road as well.
Colorful Footsteps
Sherry is currently on a solo around the world trip. Often a do-gooder, she travels the world with intensions of making some positive difference in herself or in others along the way. We always enjoy the photography on her site, as well as stories about the unique places she visits.
Raymond’s blog never disappoints. His posts are full of sarcasm and we like that humor they call sarcasm. In Raymond’s words, “Shake the shackles. Escape through travel.” Best tagline ever.
Diana’s blog documents her time abroad as she navigates her 30-Life-Crisis with humor, excitement and lessons learned about life … and living. She traded the corporate world for long-term travel in March 2010.
The Jungle Princess
In August of 2009, Abby traded her Stilettos for the ‘Pura Vida’ lifestyle in Costa Rica. She is currently back in the neon jungle of Vegas, writing about her life and travels.
Migrationology
Mark grew up traveling the world with his family. After going to college, he set off to find a sustainable approach to living out a lifestyle of travel. He wants to show people that it’s a lot more feasible (and cheaper) than you think to travel the world.
Amanda is one ordinary girl in search of life’s extraordinary stories and adventures. Right now she balances grad school and travel and seems to do a pretty good job of it!
Brooke vs. the World
Brooke is an Oz expat, archaeology digger, ESL teacher, perpetual dreamer, Russian language learner, Spanish phrase repeater, working holiday maker, and an Australia partner visa holder. Phew… say that five times fast. One of the things we love most about Brooke is her motivation. She runs multiple blogs and updates them frequently with quality and helpful content.
Suzy is a travel writer by profession. Instead of flopping around and trying out different professions, she made travel writing a focus from day one and it shows. Her writing is witty, eloquent, and passionate.
Simon and Erin have sold everything to travel the world indefinitely. In 2009, they sold everything, quit their jobs, rented out their house and headed out to play dice with destiny. So far, their never ending voyage has taken them to places all over South America, Central America and different parts of Asia.
Phil is an artist, a music-maker and he enjoys silliness. We like that he would rather sit in a bar than visit a museum because honestly museums don’t hold our interest all that well either. Also, if you want to learn how to draw camels, Phil is your guy!
Budget Travel Adventures
You may think from the title of this blog that Jeremy’s website is all about how to travel for as inexpensively as possible. But the truth is that his site focuses on getting the most out of whatever your budget is. Jeremy has some great ideas and tips on how to travel and spend intelligently. He’s also a hell of a nice guy! I can’t forget to mention the newest edition to his site, “The College Football Travel Tour”. If you’re a fan of college football, then it’s a series you won’t want to miss.

When I started travel blogging in 2006, there were only a handful of travel blogs locally, and it’s mostly run by men.
Everyday, more and more people are starting travel blogs. It’s hard to keep up with them all. I wish I could because I love reading people’s travel stories. They keep me excited about life on the road. But there’s too many blogs to read.
thanks a ton for organizing a great resource really helpful for all of us
Great list indeed! I’m getting information in just one page. Thanks mate!
A great list of travel blogs. I find getting information from real people about travel destinations around the world is the best way to find the hidden secrets of any place, and the best place to start finding this information is the travel blogs.
Great list, I already know most of them but some are new to me. These type of articles help me locate the best out of all sites in a particular niche. Thanks for your resourceful article.
Slightly behind on my readings, but still very appreciative of the mention. A lot of great travel bloggers mentioned here. Happy to be in great company, including the two of you 🙂
These two people who recently returned to Canada, travel the world. These days, all year round there is a base camp and take all the joy of traveling.
Yay!! Thanks for the inclusion, you two – clearly we’re in fabulous company. 🙂 I still can’t believe we haven’t met IRL yet, but that day will come. We miss San Diego too much to stay away for long!
