How to Travel to Fiji on a Budget
When you are on your way to any of the Pacific countries, you should never let the opportunity of going to the Fiji Islands pass you by. It has been a major tourist destination, and one can say that their tourist infrastructure is very developed. That being said, you can expect to travel to Fiji on a budget.
Immersing yourself in the Fijian culture is a great way to travel on a budget. Meet the locals, and relax as you relish in nature’s goodness.
How to Find the Best Deals
Fiji offers everything that a tourist would want to experience on a tropical island, from hotel accommodations to nightlife adventures. Even if you travel to Fiji on a budget, you can enjoy everything it has to offer because of the variety of things that one can do when in the small country. As a country known for marine activities and natural habitat that people would most likely enjoy, Fiji Islands has become the top destination for those who wants to enjoy just that. Snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and swimming are just some of the activities you can enjoy while in there.
After traveling consistently for over 10 years, we’ve come to trust and rely on a few websites to help us find the best deals on flights and accommodation.
Flights:
- Momondo is the first place we check when searching for cheap flights. It searches hundreds of sites for the best fare and includes both standard and budget airlines. The price calendar feature shows the cheapest days to fly in your preferred month of travel.
Accommodation:
- Booking.com offers savings on hotels, apartments, and villas in 80,000 destinations worldwide. You can browse hotel reviews and find the guaranteed best price on hotels for all budgets.
Where to Stay in Fiji
There are plenty of affordable hostels in Fiji and it’s a great way to meet other travelers. You can also rent a place with a kitchen through AirBnb (Sign up through this link and receive a free credit for your first stay!) which will save you money on food expenses.
A hotel stay in Fiji doesn’t have to break the bank either. The Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa offers rooms for as low as $200/night and gets excellent reviews!
Transportation
Instead of hiring taxis or renting cars for trips, why don’t you ride public transportation? Although taxis are faster than other modes of transportation, you can get a richer experience by experiencing local modes of transportation. Bus fares are relatively cheap in Fiji and although they do not always arrive on time, you are on island time and shouldn’t be in a hurry anyway.
Saving Money on Food
Also, avoid shopping in malls. Opt for items sold in local markets, because only then will you be able to truly see what Fiji could offer as a reminder for your visit. Go to local shops where you could buy items at a much lower price and buy more items than when you decide to go to shopping malls.
Lastly, eat with the locals instead of going to expensive restaurants. Ask around for affordable eateries or check the Yelp app once you get on the ground.
Traveling does not mean that you have to use up all your savings for the trip. You can always go for budget-friendly travels, and certainly, you can travel to Fiji on a budget.
