I can’t believe it has already been four years since I traveled to Indonesia!
My main purpose for visiting Bali in 2009 was to surf legendary waves and photograph the stunning beaches in the south. If you are a regular reader of this blog, then you already know we are both extremely obsessed with gorgeous beaches — and Indonesia has plenty of those.
During my ten-day visit to Bali, I not only fell in love with the picturesque landscapes, but I found the people to be kind and welcoming. We met a group of girls on the beach in Padang Padang who were practicing their English — for a school project — by speaking with tourists. It was surprised by the friendliness of these young girls and they seemed genuinely eager to learn about cultures other than their own.
While I was in Ubud, I watched a traditional Kecak Fire Dance. This performance involves a group of men, sitting in a circle, swaying and chanting — while the story of Ramayana unfolds. If I do make it back to Bali, I’ll be bringing my tripod to the show this time. I left the shutter open for three seconds on the following shot and while I do love the motion of the performers, the rest of the shot is not 100% in focus.
When Garuda Indonesia Airline approached us about sharing their contest with our readers, of course we said yes.
The theme of the contest this year is “My Enchanting Town” and they are asking people to submit their favorite shots from anywhere in Indonesia. Contestants are asked to submit three photos — nature, culture, and people. The contest runs through July 28, 2013, so you still have two weeks to get those photos in!
Prizes total more than $10,000 in cash plus plane tickets. To learn more about this contest and to submit your photos, visit Garuda Indonesia World Photo Contest.
