Our Most Popular Photos on Instagram in August 2014

It wasn’t until very recently that I jumped on the Instagram bandwagon (Are you following us yet?). When I first got an iPhone a couple of years ago, I opened an account and shared a few photos here and there, but I honestly didn’t put much effort into sharing photos on that platform.

Now that Facebook has become practically worthless in terms of how many people see our fan page posts, I’ve looked to Instagram to replace that social channel. When I realized it’s very possible to get 500 likes on one photo, with less than 2,000 followers, I started to warm up to Instagram very quickly.

After ignoring the platform for a couple of years, I now feel like I have years of past travel photos to share on Instagram, in addition to sharing photos from our travels in real time.

Here are a few of our most popular travel photos on Instagram for the month of August:

Curious Puffin in Newfoundland

Hot Tub Sunset in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Cheeca Lodge and Spa in The Florida Keys

The Four Seasons Mauritius in Africa

La Jolla, California at Sunset

An Aerial View of San Diego

Aaaand… A Puffin Trying to Get Airborne — Despite Eating Too Many Fish

Wow! You have some amazing photos! I have just warmed up to Instagram as well! I love it and it is now my favorite social media. I will now check to make sure I am following you!

    • Thank you! 🙂 I’m pretty sure we are following each other. I’m super jealous of your Norway shots.

I love this idea for a post. Instagram is so fun, and this is great since I can see a “best of” for your month.

    • I’m glad you like it, Jenna. I don’t always share my Instagram photos on other social platforms, so I think it’s a good way to share those photos on the blog.

  • Hi Christy,

The first puffin shot is awesome. So neat, how he’s peering at the camera.

All the photos rock, as does Instagram. It’s one of those networks that has sky high engagement rates, but I need to set aside time to network effectively on IG. Right now I’m so busy blogging, commenting and tweeting that I’ve backburnered Instagram.

The network works if you share eye-catching photos and also, if you Like other people’s stuff. That’s the key; giving, and the receiving part grows easier.

Beautiful Puerta Vallarta shot too. We are probably doing Central America in mid January, for a good 6 months or so, and when we were looking up places in Mexico PV popped up a few times. We may be visiting if we find a place that fits our needs there.

Fun list of pictures. La Jolla is one of the few places in the USA I’d really love visiting. Other than Cali, I can’t pull myself away from Asia to hit the US, unless I’m coming home to NJ for Christmas….as we are in early December.

    Thanks so much Christy.

    Tweeting in a bit.

    • Hey Ryan. Thanks for stopping by. La Jolla is definitely gorgeous and one of our favorite spots in California. Scott’s from NJ too, but we live in San Diego.

I’m still not using Instragram, but looking at your photos and after knowing about your experience with the app, I think I should get it too.
